So I've taken the plunge, and my two girls are with their studs as we speak. Assuming that the breedings go as planned, I should be expecting litters sometime after the 27th, and I can't wait.
Mouseketeers Sirocco x Guardian's Gathering Cherry Atomic
longhair lilac burmese manx x longhair mock chocolate fox
Offspring should be manx carriers (probably not manx) and longhairs. Suspected genotype for Cherry is c(ch)c so I'm expecting chinchillas, burmese, and himalayans, almost certainly with some foxes. They'll all carry blue and chocolate from their sire but unless Cherry has some interesting recessives, I don't expect those colors to show. Temperamentally, Sirocco was a part of a successful lifelong brother colony, where one brother was successfully reintegrated after a mating, so I'm hoping to get the same sociability and lack of male aggression in the offspring. Conformationally, Cherry's eye is a bit small and her coat's flat but she's got nice size and the texture of her coat is very silky, I'm hoping Sirocco's lovely eyes and fluffy coat improve on that.
Froghollow Bihar x Zen Niobe
standard snowtiger x standard himalayan manx
Offspring should be manx or manx carriers, standard coat. Bihar's mother was an agouti manx and his father was a blue siamese so he's a blue and manx carrier and has c(h) for sure--what the other c gene might be I have no idea. Based on that I'm expecting siamese and himalayan, plus something else. There's a chance that at least some will be snowtigers with A(vy). Possible other genes that the offspring could carry and/or express are agouti, blue, chocolate, and marked. Temperamentally, Bihar and his brother are sons of Sirocco's brother, so they have a family history of sociability. Bihar lives with his brother, and they've been successfully reintegrated after a mating, they're wonderfully calm and laid-back and I'm hoping that passes down. Since Niobe is a rambunctious whirlwind of a mouse, this should be a nice match. Conformationally, Bihar has a lovely sweet face and nice big eye, and Niobe's got gorgeous manx type (if a bit small).
I plan to keep the moms-to-be together in their tub once they come back, with accommodations to make sure tiny babies can't squeeze through the mesh. There should be plenty of floorspace for two moms, two nest sites, two groups of babies, etc. Since the two litters should look quite different and be born at least a day or so separate (apparently Niobe's been been making Bihar work for it, lol) I'm not too worried about telling the litters apart. Hopefully the male babies can all be separated off and kept in a mixed-litter colony together.
I'm kind of nervous even talking about this until there are actual babies to talk about, but I'm just too excited. Anyone have any suggestions for success? Any corrections to my genetics?
