I'm Stephanie. I've owned mice for about 3 years now but only started seriously breeding them last year - I like to think I'm coming along in leaps and bounds with my progress on improving type. I found my first doe for my line at a pet store in Hamilton (yes, I am in New Zealand) who seemed to just morph into an abnormal looking mouse within a few months of owning her, large ears, bug eyes, "hour-glass" figure and a long tail and with that, it began. I live in Whangarei, New Zealand on about 11 acres and I have a fair few animals - Scottish Highlands, cats, fish, guinea pigs, rabbits, mice and rats Really not sure what else to say so feel free to ask questions!

Hi Stephanie and welcome what sort of varieties do you have in NZ? Is there many people involved in the fancy there?

Hi Stephanie and welcome what sort of varieties do you have in NZ? Is there many people involved in the fancy there? If you think Australia is in the dark with lack of colours, New Zealand is a whole 'nother ball park. As far as I am aware, we do not have any of the colours that involve "ce". We have pied and self in black, agouti, dove, argente, c-dilute agouti, chocolate, champagne, lighter mock chocolate, sepia, siamese, himalayan, albino, burmese and I believe that about covers what we have. The only coat types we have are standard and longhair. There are a lot of people that breed mice but I'm the only one so far with the goal of improving type. There are a few people who are trying to set up a mouse club but sadly, they do not understand the difference between Champagne and Argente.

Hmm I'll trade you some new mousey colors for a chinchilla? What's your definitition of a Chinchilla. I believe someone in Australia refers to c-dilute agoutis as Chinchillas - I tend to go by Finnmouse and Chinchilla according to them is a white bellied dilute agouti. I really should look up the import laws in regards to mice from Australia to NZ.

Our Chinchilla here is agouti with 2 copies of the chinchilla gene. I believe is their silver agouti the difference being theirs has to have a white belly.
But I was talking about the species chinchilla not the mouse color lol

You guys don't have chinchillas? That seems so odd to me.
