Hey, I'm Janette. I'm a newbie to mice but enjoying learning all the stuff there is to know. I haven't done any breeding but I'm becoming more and more tempted. I've only had pet shop mice up until just recently, and I'm utterly enchanted by how friendly and gorgeous my new pedigree mouse is. I'm definitely hooked! My current cage houses a pair of females, a 16-month black and white named Lady Dragonfly Go and a 2-month mock chocolate fox longhair named Cherry Atomic. I'm hoping to get another few girls to round out the colony soon. I'm feeling particularly accomplished today, as I've spent most of the day making them their brand new bin cage. \o/ I'll post pictures of it in the housing section, if I can get my camera to work.

Hi Janette and welcome Did you get your pedigree mouse from a local breeder? I'd love to see some pics of your new cage.

I adopted her from Zen Mousery but I think she was bred elsewhere. She's an absolute doll, and Zen was so kind to let me adopt her.
I got my camera to work, and they've both been poking around with O.O expressions and being obligingly photogenic, I'll post some pictures tomorrow. [grins]

Hi. Green with envy over your pedigree mouse. Look forward to seeing pictures and hearing about how she is different in character to pet shop mouse.

Hi. Green with envy over your pedigree mouse. Look forward to seeing pictures and hearing about how she is different in character to pet shop mouse. Would you believe, my pedigree girl is currently much more shy and reserved? I suspect it's because she's new, so she doesn't know me well, and also because she's young and all things considered she really hasn't been with me and my setup for long. But the pet shop mouse (maybe because she's lived long enough to know that the five-foot-tall-pinkish-column who periodically rearranges things brings food?) will climb to the top of the cage and wave her paws at me. If I don't pick her up right away, she'll start trying to climb whatever part of my arm is closest. But she's got beautiful manners, when I can coax her onto my hand or gently get her into a position where I can pick her up without scaring her. She doesn't go exploring up my arms, just climbs around on my hands a bit and then sits quietly, no biting or anything. I think with a bit more time and exposure, she'll relax and be more outgoing, but even if she doesn't, that's okay--all mice have their own personalities. She's definitely very social and comfortable with her cagemate, I see them snuggled up together all the time and playing Queen Of The Hill on the finch-nest. Totally adorable!

It was great to meet you yesterday Janette. I didn't get much of a chance to get around to chat to people properly though which was a shame.
